CRC Unable to Overcome Santa Rosa in Hard Fought Matchup

Santa Rosa, CA - After a solid preseason, the Hawks started off their conference play against Santa Rosa Junior College. Last season the Hawks split the season series with both home teams taking the victory on their own court. The Hawks put up a valliant effort to try and reverse the trend, but were unable to overcome the offense of the Santa Rosa hitters.

The offense struggled to find holes in the defense of Santa Rosa, hitting a combined .128 with 35 kills. The 20 errors sunk any momentum that the Hawks were able to build on their side. Taryn Oberle, a Sophomore Outside Hitter, lead the Hawk offense with 9 kills. Deziree McKee and Kaley Dosier both contributed 8 kills apiece to help carry the Hawk offense. Giovanna Parino assisted on 32 of the 35 total kills for the CRC offensive.

For the Hawks, a trio of defenders racked up double digit totals in digs. Abigail Hicks (15) lead the Hawk defense with Isabella Bugarin (12) and Giovanna Parino (10) doing some of the heavy lifting as well. Along with a strong effort in digs, the Hawks combined for 7 blocks (3 solos, and 4 combo). Deziree McKee picked up 2 of the solo blocks and Miah Williamson picked up 2 combo blocks in the four set match. Serving was a strong point of the Hawk defense in which CRC combined for 7 aces. Ainsley Beckman and Abigail Hicks tied with 3 service aces apiece.

"Santa Rosa defintely produced from their outsides this match. For most of our girls this was their first glimpse at what play will be like for the rest of the season," said Head Coach Kari Post Naheln. "While the conference is tough, I think that we can compete with any team in our conference. Now we go back into practice, make adjustments and get ready for our next game. I'm excited to see our team compete at home and to be able to make adjustments for the next time we play against Santa Rosa."

Up Next - The Hawks (8-5) return home for their home opener for conference play against American River College (6-6). The game will begin at 6:30 pm with warm-ups starting at 5:30 on Clark Court in the main gym. With so many local players, there will be a good crowd on hand to support the Hawks against a conference opponent.
