21 from Cooper Not Enough in Comeback From Early Deficit
Cosumnes River faced a tough challenge, falling 65–51 to No. 8 San Joaquin Delta. The Hawks battled throughout the contest and closed strong in the fourth quarter, but an early deficit proved difficult to overcome against the nationally ranked Mustangs.
San Joaquin Delta built momentum early, taking an 18–11 lead after the first quarter and extending the advantage to 53–31 through three periods. Cosumnes River responded with its best stretch of the night in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Mustangs 20–12, but the comeback effort came up short.
Zakara Cooper led all Hawks with a game-high 21 points, knocking down four three-pointers and attacking the basket consistently. Daniela Campos added seven points off the bench, going 7-for-8 from the free-throw line, while Ariel Bailey chipped in seven points. Sophia Davis contributed three points and five rebounds in limited minutes, and Arianna Butler provided a spark inside with four points on perfect shooting.
Defensively, Cosumnes River forced 16 turnovers and recorded eight steals, with multiple players applying pressure on the perimeter. The Hawks also shot efficiently from beyond the arc, finishing 7-of-13 (53.8 percent) from three-point range.
Despite the loss, Cosumnes River showed resilience against one of the top teams in the state, particularly in the fourth quarter surge.
