Despite Three Hawks in Double-Digit Scoring, Hawks Fall Short Against #3 in the State
Hawks Come Up Just Short in 61–60 Battle at No. 3 Santa Rosa
Cosumnes River pushed No. 3 Santa Rosa to the final buzzer on Friday night but came up just short in a tightly contested 61–60 loss. The Hawks trailed 39–31 at halftime before responding with a strong defensive effort in the second half, outscoring Santa Rosa 29–22 and nearly completing the comeback.
Mason Marsh led Cosumnes River with 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting, knocking down two three-pointers and adding five rebounds and two steals. Jake Williams provided a big spark from the perimeter, finishing with 13 points while going 3-for-7 from beyond the arc, along with four rebounds and three assists. Aaron Gillyard added 12 points and three assists, while also recording two steals on the defensive end.
Aalijah Gillyard contributed seven points and a team-high seven rebounds, helping the Hawks stay competitive on the glass against a physical Santa Rosa frontcourt. Kainoa Marasco chipped in six points and three rebounds, and Jaden High added five points off the bench.
Cosumnes River shot 44.4 percent from the field and held Santa Rosa to just 22 points in the second half, forcing the Bears into difficult looks down the stretch. The Hawks also committed just five turnovers, keeping themselves within striking distance throughout the game.
Despite the narrow loss, the Hawks showed resilience and composure against one of the top-ranked teams in the state. Cosumnes River will look to build on the strong performance as they prepare for their next matchup.
