SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Cosumnes River College baseball team showed resilience and offensive firepower throughout a three-game conference series against American River from April 14–18, highlighted by a dramatic comeback victory in the middle game. The Hawks ultimately dropped the series two games to one, but not without a statement win and several standout individual performances.
Cosumnes River opened the series on April 14 on the road, falling 10-3 despite a late push. After being held scoreless through six innings, the Hawks broke through in the seventh. Brent Martin led the charge with a 3-for-4 performance, including an RBI double, while Aaron Del Real and Guadalupe Gonzalez each drove in a run. However, an early surge by American River, including a seven-run stretch across the third and fourth innings, proved too much to overcome.
The Hawks responded in a big way on April 16, delivering one of their most exciting wins of the season in a 10-9 victory at home. After falling behind 7-2 early, Cosumnes River mounted a comeback fueled by timely hitting and patience at the plate. Lukas Hutson delivered a game-changing performance with four RBIs, while Guadalupe Gonzalez blasted a three-run home run to bring the Hawks back within striking distance. Ryan Okino added a key RBI double, and the Hawks capitalized on defensive miscues to take the lead. Jaylen Dawson later scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning, sealing the comeback victory. On the mound, Jacob Schreiber provided stability out of the bullpen, earning the win with 5.2 strong innings, and Brent Martin closed the door to record the save.
In the series finale on April 18, the Hawks again showed fight but came up short in a 7-5 loss on the road. Cosumnes River jumped out to an early lead in the first inning behind an RBI single from Jaylen Dawson. The offense remained active throughout the game, tallying 12 hits, including three from both Tyler Cody and Guadalupe Gonzalez. Gonzalez continued his strong series with two RBIs, while Jimmy Radler also drove in a run. Despite cutting into the deficit late with two runs in the ninth, the Hawks were unable to complete another comeback.
Across the series, Gonzalez paced the Hawks offensively with consistent production, while Hutson and Martin delivered key performances in clutch moments. The bullpen also showed flashes of effectiveness, particularly in the series win.
