Hawks Swim Meet Golden!

Hawks Swim Meet Golden!

The Cosumnes River College Hawks swim team showed they might well be a force to reckoned with in the upcoming season as they won their first home swim meet in some 30 years on Saturday.

The Tri-Meet between CRC, City College of San Francisco, and Big 8 rival Sacramento City College ultimately turned out to be more of a two-team meet as CCSF only had 3 different swimmers earning points.

For the Hawks, Suraya Golden was the star as CRC swimmers broke 13 records on the day. Golden set a record of 27.58 in the 50 fly, finishing second and besting the old record by over 6 seconds. Natasha Supan was also quicker than the old record with her third place finish and time of 28.62.

In the 100 Fly the Hawks placed three swimmers in the top four places and that was the start of the CRC scoring avalanche as Golden's time of 1:14.04 was almost a full second quicker than the old record and Sara Krajnovic and Jenna Singh finished third and fourth respectively to earn points for the Hawks.

The 400 Medley Relay with the CRC "A" team consisting of Natasha Supan, Suraya Golden, Jenna Singh, and Sara Krajnovic continued the onslaught with another record setting performance trimming almost thirty seconds off the previous record with a time of 5:02.91.

The 200 Individual Medley turned out to be a one through four sweep with all three of the top finishers breaking the old school record of 3:00.10. Suraya Golden took first in a time of 2:44.59, Sara Krajnovic finished second at 2:44.85 and Natasha Supan came in third at 2:52.32. Gertrude Pilapil finished with the fourth fastest time as this event gave CRC an almost insurmountable 78-46 lead over Sacramento City College.

In the final accounting, Suraya Golden set 5 individual records for the Hawks and Natasha Supan set one individual record and both swimmers were part of winning,  or, time setting relay teams. Thirteen swimmers on the day were faster than previous school records, with new records set in the 50 & 100 Fly, the 100 Backstroke and Freestyle, the 200 IM and Freestyle, the 200 Freestyle Relay, and the 400 Medley Relay.
